What Is Mine To Do? | Speaking, Preaching, & Politics | The Mister Brown Show Podcast

Thank you for joining me for this episode of The Mister Brown Show, “Real Talk, Real Life, Real Choices!”

The topic of today’s episode is “What is mine to do?” We are going to talk about then-presidential-candidate Biden and his “you aint black” comment, Disney and the so-called ‘Don’t Say Gay Bill,’ Tony Timpa, school shootings, shootings that were averted, and much more!

What is mine to do?

This is a question we should all be asking ourselves.  We cannot do everything, but we all have something we can do!

I am always sending videos and articles of all the topics I want to talk about to my producer, Paige. There is so much I want to talk about, but I have to ask myself, “What is mine to do?” When I see certain stuff I cannot help but speak up about it.

What media source do you listen to?

Unfortunately, I think we have to listen to all of them in order to gather all of the information.  If you only listen to one media source, you're missing information.  For example, most of my friends never heard about this! Back in 2020, then presidential candidate Joe Biden appeared on a show called the Breakfast Club.  This show is mainly focused on a black audience with a majority of black listeners.  While on the show Joe Biden said “if you have a problem figuring out if you are for me or for Trump, then you ain’t black!” He basically said that if you don’t vote for him, then you are not black! Some of my friends had never even heard that Joe Biden said that! Why? Because the media didn’t cover it.

Let’s be honest. The media is very divided; and I can’t help but speak up.

For example, when Georgy Floyed was killed in 2020 and protests erupted all over the place. Let me ask you, have you ever heard of a man named Tony Timpa?  In 2016, Tony Timpa was killed by police officers when they kneeled on his neck for 14 minutes. He died.  Again, a lot of my friends had never even heard his name. But it happened and he too died a terrible death.  But how is it that there were never any protests? Why weren’t people up in arms about this man’s death and the story broadcasted on every news source in America? Why? Because he wasn’t black.  It didn’t fit the media's narrative that all police officers are racists.

Even Breanna Taylor’s death wasn’t a racially motivated incident at all! If you read the court documents from the case you realize that she was living with a guy who was involved in some bad things and she unfortunately was caught in the mess.  If she was white, you never would have heard about it.

Why Do This?

The reason I do The Mister Brown Show is so that I can ask questions and discuss certain topics on the proper platform.  My role with The Choose Well Program is to speak in schools and teach kids about their choices.  I want to help them understand the impact of their choices and help them make better choices.  That is not the proper place to discuss these current-event-topics.  Now, sometimes students will bring up these topics in our conversations, but I simply try to ask questions and get them to truly think about it for themselves.

For example, the Disney situation with the so-called ‘Don’t Say Gay Bill’ was brought up the other day.  Now the bill doesn’t actually say the word gay at any point, rather it provides that teachers and schools are not allowed to talk about sex, sexualtiy, and gender with students up to 3rd grade.  This group of students brought up the bill and expressed how upset they were with it.  I asked them if they had even read the bill to know what it says. They said no.  I asked them if they thought it was okay to have people talk to 1st graders about sex?

Listen. We have a problem in America. Our kids are not proficient in reading, writing, math, and science! But yet we are talking to them in the classroom about sex. This is not okay! So I agree with the Florida bill, we need to refocus what we are teaching kids in school. Especially after basically losing almost 2 years of learning! As a parent I want to be able to have those types of conversations with my kids. I don't want the people I pay to teach them math and writing to be talking to them about sex instead. I think as parents we need to take responsibility for our children’s education. We are the parents, and we pay people to teach our children STEM, SEL, etc… not sex. The Florida bill has been skewed to be seen as something it isn’t in order to fit the narrative.

I want to use my voice and my influence to speak up about these issues and that is some of the reasoning behind The Mister Brown Show.  It is a platform where I can ask questions and encourage people to have conversations.

One Choice At A Time

Our purpose with The Choose Well Program is to build better school cultures, one choice at a time. We want to teach students that their choices matter.  To learn more about The Choose Well Program, visit our website at: https://www.thechoosewellprogram.com

On the other side of things, we also have Proclaim Ministries. To learn more about Proclaim Ministries, visit our website at: https://proclaimministries.com.  We have tons of different resources including Thought Of The Day videos, Memory Verses for Kids, the Proclaim Ministries podcast, and much more!

Ultimately, I hope that everyone makes the best choice and that is trusting Christ as their Lord and Savior.

The Mister Brown Show is the avenue that I can bridge the gap between both organizations.  I ultimately want people to make up their own mind and to understand the importance of their choices. Because when you make better choices, you will live a better life. So choose well. Oh yeah!

A Country Divided

I think it is so sad that our country is so divided by  “The Right” and “The Left.”  Sometimes we are so bent on ‘our side’ that we don’t tell the truth simply for the sake of sticking to ‘our side.’

I want to clarify that I am not against the media. I simply want them to do their job and that is to tell the truth.  To expose the story and not try to manipulate the narrative to fit a certain agenda. This idea makes me think of the shooting in Uvalde, Texas.  That was a horrible thing that happened! And yet, immediately the conversation shifted to gun control.  The tragedy was used to push the gun control narrative.  Let me ask this, if there were stricter gun control laws would it have stopped the Uvalde shooting? I think not; because criminals commit school shootings.  A law is not going to stop a criminal from doing criminal things. Look at Chicago.  How many shootings happen there despite their strict gun control laws? Yet we don’t hear anything about that.

Recently a young woman witnessed a man shooting at a graduation party in West Virginia. She, legally carrying a gun, shoots this man and saves everybody’s lives. However, we do not hear about this. Why? Why aren’t we hearing about this? It doesn’t fit the narrative.

Just today I heard of another story about a guy who was attempting to gain access to a school.  He was confronted by the school resources officer and tried going for the officer's gun and the officer had to shoot him.  How many lives did that officer save?

I heard this quote the other day and wanted to share it.

What do all of these have in common? The answer is armed guards.  I recently heard about an area where they have armed individuals who guard their schools.  It is sad that our world has come to that, and it is a sad reality.  However it is also a sad reality that we live in a world where you can’t go to the grocery store or the bank without the fear of being robbed.  We have armed guards for a reason.  We live in a fallen world.

Reason

We are trying to use reason against people who are not reasonable people.  We can’t use reasonable methods to protect our kids from unreasonable people.

Now I am perfectly okay with having debates about who should have guns and the proper way to our kids! However, let’s not use a broad brush and just say that nobody should have a gun.

I want us to start asking ourselves, “What is mine to do?” I make this podcast to ask questions and try to understand the things that happen in our world.  I may be wrong, and that is okay. I will admit that.  The sad thing is sometimes people don’t want to admit they were wrong.  Let's be honest and have respectful dialogue.  Let’s ask better questions.  We can agree to disagree, but still commit to decency.  I may not always agree with you, but you are still worthy of respect because you were created with purpose. God created you with value!

The sad thing is that the narrative is becoming (and our kids are starting to embrace) that if you don't agree with me, then I can dismiss you entirely and you no longer have value.  It's almost reverse bullying. For example, the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team. The organizational management decided to team was to wear gay pride uniforms. Some of the players refused to wear them as it goes against their beliefs, and these players are being criticized and called names for not supporting someone's choice of lifestyle.

I believe we are called to love God and love people. Loving people does not mean I agree with everything they say, but it is how I treat them.  I don’t have to agree with you on everything to love you.

Thought Of The Day

Proverbs 17:18

“The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.”

Denzel Washington once said that the media is “part of the problem,” as they are not about being right or accurate, but about being first.

I would like to ask us to examine the news we hear. Try listening to the other side and researching stories for ourselves.  See if your own research can validate a story.  Let’s be people who are willing to examine what we hear. Because it all comes down to a choice.

Keep Moving Forward

I recently spoke at an 8th grade graduation and my whole message was centered on the idea of “keep moving forward.” Afterwards, I was talking with a student that I had met from previous visits to their school and her mom told me that she had lost her husband, the girl's father, in the Carr Fire 4 years ago. She started crying and said that ever since then, the message they kept hearing was “keep moving forward.”  I feel so incredibly grateful for what I get to do and that I was able to bring them that same message.

I talked about a lot of different things today, because I can’t just assume that someone else will speak up and talk about it if I don’t.  However, all these topics culminate in the idea of “What is mine to do?”  I feel like “mine” is to be salt and light in the world.  To use my influence and my voice to make a better world. And ultimately, to love God and love people.

“What is mine to do?” “What is yours to do?”  I am asking myself this question on a regular basis because it's a choice! And when you make better choices, you will live a better life. So choose well.

Oh yeah!
