Keep Moving Forward | Martin Luther King, Jr. Quote

If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.

Keep moving forward

This quote goes really well with The Choose Well message - this quote is all about choices.

No one can take your ability to choose away from you. Even though people were not able to make some of the choices they wanted to during Martin Luther King, Jr.’s time, they were able to choose how they responded to those situations. Martin Luther King, Jr. embodied the power that choices can have.

The Civil Rights Movement was not a fast process and we still have a lot to work on in this country to have equal rights for all. Even though this process has been long and arduous, Martin Luther King, Jr. pushed to keep moving forward.

Choices matter

There are a lot of things you can’t choose for yourself, but you have to keep moving forward. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s quote is a message for everyone. We all face situations that we didn’t choose, but we can choose to respond in a way that keeps us moving forward and striving for a better life.

When I give the Choose Well message, I show an image of a puzzle with the outside pieces all connected together. I talk about how you didn’t get to choose the outside of the puzzle. You didn’t get to choose who your parents are or where you were born.

On the other hand, everything that goes in the middle you can choose. How the puzzle ultimately all fits together is up to you. You can choose how you respond to what has happened to you.

How can this quote help you?

Like so many of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s quotes, this quote can apply to everyone. No matter where you are in life, you can choose how you respond to your situation. This message can impact people for generations to come.

Maybe you haven’t been making good choices in your life. Does that mean there is no hope for you? No. Martin Luther King, Jr. said to keep moving forward. No matter how hard it may be, keep moving. Whether it’s overcoming addiction, racism, or a tough circumstance you were born into, you have the power to choose to keep moving forward. What will you choose?
